Kookumber Project #2

Kookumber Project Update.

- The Hollow Redwood Kookumber is in the glassing process. Greg Martz laminated it late last week.

- I passed off the chambered balsa blank to Griffin yesterday so he could finish shaping it. (Not before ensuring that the tail was at least 2 shakas wide)

Peanut-shaped Cashew by Almond

Griffin has been wanting to try shaping an alaia for a while (however we're still pretty far from getting him to try one)

So I gave him creative freedom to experiment with one of the Obeche wood blanks yesterday.

It resulted in a beautiful 5'10, peanut-inspired alaia that looks insanely fun.

Oden documented the process.

Do you know the Muffin Man?

Here are some amazingly rad film photos that Lightner took of Griffin working on some collabo boards we did with Matt of MWM Graphics and Corduroy Surf Boutique.

Definitely my favorite shaping photos Lightner has done.

This 4-board series we did with MWM will be on display starting tonight at Corduroy in Portland, Maine. More photos of the finished product coming soon.

Shaping Room Photo { kookumber }

Here's a photo Lightner took a few months back, of Griffin and I discussing tweaks to the kookumber.  Since then, I think we've really gotten the kookumber dialed in to what we intended it to be. Based on the feedback we've been getting recently, I'm pretty stoked on the shape.

We've got a bundle of new boards in the works right now.  Lightner documented some of the progress.

Welcome to The Almond Family...

Here's the newest contributor at Almond, Griffin NK, with his first major contribution... a 5'10 Kookumber for Levi.  Griffin did an incredible job with this one... and he's got plenty more in the works.  Thanks buddy.

Rad New Friends

So, I've been looking forward to meeting the Grass is Greener crew for a while.  They came by to hang out today, and we chatted about everything from surfboard design to spirituality.  I had a blast getting to know these guys, and about the possibility of some collaborative stuff in the future.

These are some super talented dudes with some rad things going on.  Take a look...
