LOVE FOR JAPAN | 50% Pledge

As you may know, Japan has been a huge supporter of Almond; as well as many other surfboard labels. I have had the pleasure of traveling there twice, and have a deep appreciation for the culture, as well as the friends I have made there.

In an effort to give back to the country that has been so supportive of us, we are going to give 50% of the proceeds from our apparel sales for the next month to relief funds to help Japan.

Both online and in-store apparel sales will benefit the relief efforts.

We're so thankful for the people of Japan, so we want to use what little influence we have, in the things that we do, to help out.

Praying for hope and relief for all the people over there.

Mr. Hiromichi Soeda

Tomohiro's dad, Hiromichi Soeda, owns Soeda Surfboards Japan (SSJ) the company that distributes our surfboards in Japan. He is a legendary Japanese surfer who has been charging big waves in Hawaii and Japan for decades.'

Nathan and I got to meet Mr. Soeda while we were in Japan in October. We hung out at the beach with him during our surfboard demo in Shonan. Tomo told us that he had never seen his dad ride a longboard, and he probably hadn't done so since he was a kid. So, of course getting him to paddle out on a log became an instant goal for the trip.

During the demo, without the slightest prompting from any of us, Mr. Soeda zipped up his wetsuit, snatched Nathan's 9'9 off of the sand and headed toward the water. Needless to say, I was thrilled. I snapped a photo of him carrying Nate's board, then climbed up onto the sea wall to get a photo of him in trim on a log. The whole peanut gallery on the beach was loving it, I'm just glad I was able to snap a photo. Not sure if it was enough to convert him to a part-time logger.

"See you in Tokyo!"

While we were in Tokyo, we went to dinner with Yusuke Hanai. He took us to an incredible sushi restaurant on the 14th floor of a high-rise in Shibuya.

This guy is one of the most enjoyable people you'll meet, and of course, an amazingly talented artist.

"Go your own way"

SURF JAPAN

U-SKE sent over some surfing photos that he shot while we were there.

We didn't meet U-SKE (Yusuke Suzuki) until the day after our magical dream session, but he did get some good shots of a few small says around Hiratsuka.
