November 26, 2008

Who would have guessed what a significant afternoon that would turn out to be... the first day I met Kyle Lightner and Griffin Neumann-Kyle; as well as Mr. Theo Hetherington.

What started out as a simple interview for Grass is Greener turned into years of friendship and collaboration. Don't know where I'd be without those dudes.

Cheers, Amigos... here's to many more years of adventure.

Reshape at Casa del Perini

Simon and I stripped the glass of an old mini-mal at his house while I was staying with him, and I reshaped it into a 6'2. It ended up pretty hully because of the thickness flow of the board once we got it all cleaned up. One of the first things I told Simon when I finished the board was "Don't show it to Kyle when he comes to visit, he'll be too critical of the rails"

I know Lightner all too well... he went straight for the rails when he saw the board. But I was relieved to get an email from Kyle saying he was stoked on the board, and the rails, and he gave it the nod.

It was a fun project to do with Simon during my stay there. Now it's up to Simon and his friend Brett to glass the thing.

Stoked you're home Kyle.

Joel Tudor Invitational | Santa Cruz

Had a blast at the Vans Invitational this weekend. The waves were pumping, the weather was beautiful and everyone was surfing like bonkers.

Everyone was surfing so insane. Honestly, any single one of those guys could have won the contest. But Alex was surfing like a man possessed. One of the most impressive surfing performances I've ever seen. In the final, he was a little dot on the horizon scrapping into overhead waves and then doing what Al does best... all the way to the inside.

Burch surprised a few people by making it to the final. Although it really shouldn't surprise anyone. The guy can just flat out surf on anything. (As he has proven again and again)

Such an honor to get to be there this weekend and experience the whole thing.

Thanks so much to Joel and Vans for everything. They did an incredible job, and pulled on one for the ages.

Aloha Santa Cruz

KyleLightner.com and I are heading out pre-dawn tomorrow for Santa Cruz so we can watch Nathan and the rest of the crew participate in the Joel Tudor Invitational this weekend.

Kyle will probably take a few photos along the way.

I've never been to Santa Cruz, so I'm looking forward to it.

With all those talented loggers in one lineup, it's going to be one for the ages.

Kyle Lightner x Almond

New collab t-shirt with Mr. Lightner.

Kyle shot a photo of Nathan Adams doing a layback on his longboard; and then added his trademark scribbles.

Printed on a super soft heather gray poly-cotton t-shirt.

Kyle Lightner for VANS II

The KL for Vans billboards have started appearing all over the place.

Here are some photos from the side of a couple buildings in LA and NY, plus a NY subway.

Stoked for you Kyle! Still laughing that Griffin and I are somehow on the side of a building.

Ryan Lovelace | Liquid Salt

Read the new LS interview with Ryan Lovelace!

"What’s next for Ryan Lovelace? At this point who knows? Everything comes up organically so I don’t plan too much out aside from when and where I’m going to meet people."

Slide Magazine x Kyle Lightner x Simon Perini

Two of my favorite dudes, who happen to be photographers, each have multi-page spreads in the most recent issue of Slide Magazine.

Simon Perini covered Deus Ex Machina, and Kyle Lightner shot a bunch of gems of Alex Knost.

Stop by the shop and check it out.
